UGREEN Mini DP to HDMI + VGA Converter, Silver
Product Description
The UGREEN MD115 (part no. 20421) is a silver Mini DisplayPort converter with two outputs: HDMI at up to 4K@30Hz and VGA at up to 1920 × 1200@60Hz. It lets a 2011 to 2015 MacBook, an older Surface Pro or a ThinkPad with a Mini DP or Thunderbolt 1/2 port drive a modern HDMI TV one day and the office VGA projector the next, with one adapter in the bag instead of two.
A laptop with HDMI, DisplayPort or USB-C will not plug straight into a monitor or projector that only has VGA or HDMI. The UGREEN MD115 video adapter bridges the two ports so you can use the screen you already have. It is made for people whose laptop and display do not share the same video port.
Key Features and Benefits
- Two outputs: Outputs to both HDMI and VGA displays.
- Practical bridge between ports: Keeps older projectors and monitors useful when the laptop has moved on.
- HDMI output, 4K@30Hz: 12-bit deep colour and audio to a 4K TV or 1080p monitor.
- VGA output, 1920 × 1200@60Hz: for the projector or legacy monitor that has no HDMI.
- One port at a time: the HDMI and VGA outputs cannot run together, but switching between them is just a cable swap.
- Mini DP and Thunderbolt 1/2: fits the small DisplayPort-shaped port on older Macs and Windows ultrabooks.
Made for Life in Nairobi and Across Kenya
Connect a new laptop to the older VGA projector in a boardroom, school hall or church, or plug a laptop into a monitor that only accepts one type of input.
Buying and Setup Tips
- Check the direction: a converter goes from the source port to the display port, and it does not work in reverse in most cases.
- Confirm which ports your laptop and display have before buying.
- If sound is needed, check whether the converter carries audio, and plan a separate audio route if it does not.
- For a DVI monitor, connect an HDMI to DVI-D cable to the adapter's HDMI output; HDMI and DVI-D use the same digital video signal.
- Audio travels only over HDMI, so with the VGA output use the laptop's headphone jack for sound.
Who It's Perfect For
- Offices and schools with older projectors
- Laptop users meeting a different port at every venue
- Technicians and IT support
- Anyone reusing an older monitor

Frequently Asked Questions
Does it carry sound?
If audio is not listed for this model, plan a separate audio connection.
Can I use it in reverse?
Most converters work in one direction only. Match the connector on your source device to the input side of the converter.
Can I use HDMI and VGA at the same time for two monitors?
No. The MD115 drives one output at a time. For two external monitors from a Mini DP port you would need two adapters or a dock.
Will my 2013 MacBook Pro output 4K through it?
Yes, at 4K@30Hz over the HDMI output, provided the Mac's Thunderbolt 2 port supports 4K, which 2013 and later Retina models do.
Does the VGA side carry sound?
No. VGA is video only. Use the HDMI output for sound on a TV, or the laptop's 3.5 mm jack with the VGA projector.
